Test Shots for Product Photography


This is one of the first shots I tried, I was really unsure as to what I was doing. I didn't know what to photograph as I wanted something that would challenge me and my skills. These were my first test subjects. I'm not too sure how I like them, I think the photo is too plain. It's hard to figure out what to put with these to make the image better. I don't have much lighting options, I have a lamp with white light and I also have a coloured light but it didn't really go with the products. The light on the products is hard to get rid of as they're all reflective.


This is the second image, I changed the layout and I lay the products down and I think the products look better when like this as to standing them up. Though I still couldn't get the lighting correct again, I think it's definitely better than the picture before. I like how the light is lighting up the brands name "skin ingredients" in the middle bottle. I think that would look good on all of them but I need to figure out how to do it. I will practise more and see if I can achieve the perfect image. I think it is still kind of plain, but I'm unsure what to add to it. I was going to try a bottle of perfume but it was very empty.
I was going in between doing the products above and this product which is a perfume bottle. I was struggling with the bottle so that's why I tried the skincare products. This was my set up for the process.

This is the first picture I am adding as I really like how it turned out.  My ISO was set at 100, my aperture was set at f/4.5 and my shutter speed was set at 1/60. I had Manual flash on with 1/16. I really like the shadow behind Lauren as I think it really adds to the image. This was taken with the lights off and mostly the flash just lighting the image. I put the flash compensation down to -3.0 I had full flash turned on, with TTL flash. I really like how the reflective writing came out but also how Lauren is looking down. Studio Photography Lab Wednesday 12th Feb

This is the first image I'm writing about. I really like how it turned out, Lauren was looking at her phone and I told her to get off of it hence why she is laughing at it. I was using an external flash to take these photos. My ISO was set at 100, my aperture was set at f/5.0 and my shutter speed was set at 1/100. We were in the studio with the lights turned off, we just used the flash to light these photos.  This is the second image I'm writing about. Product Photography Research

First Image: Image is from here . I picked this image as when I was looking up images to pick this caught my attention straight away! Personally, this image makes me want to go to the fridge and grab a can of coke. It just looks so desirable. This is why I picked the image as it is really a good example of product photography. It makes the consumer want to actually go and buy the item. I think it is the ice and the droplets on the can that make people crave it, they know by looking at it that it's ice-cold and that is the best way to drink one. I think the black background works really well with this image, it's so simple but really delivers the message. The lighting works very well too, the left-hand side of the can is more lit than the right. You can't see any reflection of the camera in the can too which is good.
